I am not impressed by the responses to my point about the ludicrous tolls for motorists over the Severn Bridge. I am told that I cannot compare the cost of tolls between England and Scotland because Scotland is toll free.
Of course I can. George Sankey must be right. The English are servile. Why is England not toll free?
Why do the English pay for prescriptions when these are free in Scotland (from April 1) and Wales? Why do the English pay university fees when the fees of Scottish and Welsh students are paid for by British taxes?
We are well informed in Dublin in this age of mass communication. In any event I was still living in Lydbrook (where I was born and bred) in the Wilson era (Wilson being the man who exiled the Chagos Islanders from their homeland).
To get from Dublin to Lydbrook via Bristol airport one needs to cross the Severn Bridge to avoid a detour via Gloucester. I have taken this journey many times.
I conclude that the English are incapable of rational thought. They are no more than colonial serfs in a British state. Let them pay for their continuing servitude if they must. But sooner or later English politicians are going to rise up against this inequity.
Is it too much to hope that some of them might be from the Forest of Dean (once they have stopped hugging their trees)?
