A STUNNED family is looking for answers after witnessing mysterious glowing lights in the skies over Alvington on Monday evening.
Witness Sally Phillips of Alvington was out with her boyfriend David Crook at 10pm when their walk was interrupted by a glimpse of bright orange lights glowing in the sky.
Sally said: "I definitely don't believe in aliens, but I have been told it might have been Japanese lanterns that we saw. We were taking the dog for a walk before bed at about 10pm in the field at the top of Garlands Road.
"I was just climbing over the stile when my boyfriend David said 'look at those lights coming from Woolaston Woodside'.
"At first I thought they were fireworks coming up over the hill and then I thought it was a star with little pointy bits. There was a bright orange glow like a street light, but there was no noise – it was just really quiet and then two more came from the same direction.
"It wasn't a plane – they flash and you can hear them. It was more like something gliding and we were hypnotised by it."
David ran down the road to get his mum and dad Sue and Bob Crook, and his brother-in-law Mark who all saw one set of lights. A girl living in the same road was also said to have witnessed the eerie sight.
"The dog was going mad and didn't get his walk in the end! It was an amazing sight – quite low in the sky," Sally added. "There were six lights altogether and they came in twos, in formation, with one slightly behind the other."
The family stayed outside searching the skies for lights until midnight and then went and posted the event on social networking website Facebook to see if there were any other witnesses.
Dave's cousin also claimed to have seen two of the lights while he was walking his dog at Lydney Docks.
