A fundraiser is swimming the length of the River Severn – the longest river in the UK – the equivalent of ten English Channel swims.

The fundraising challenge will see Kev Brady, of Gloucester, swim around 220 miles (354 km), or more than 14,000 lengths of a 25m pool. It will take him approximately three weeks to complete.

Kev previously solo-paddled the entire 2,350 mile length of the Mississippi River to raise money for charity. More information can be found on his website www.kevbrady.com

All money raised will go to the Superhero Foundation, a charity Kev co-founded with cousin and fellow fundraising adventurer Jamie McDonald. The charity assists families that need funds to access otherwise inaccessible treatments for mental or physical illness.

Just a few days into the swim, as he passed Shrewsbury, Kev has reported that he is ‘feeling the cold’ of the Severn waters, and that during his sporadic breaks every hour, he has to exercise to restore some warmth to his body.

He will complete the challenge under the old Severn Bridge, at Beachley.

It is hoped the challenge will raise £5,000, and donations can be made to: www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/kevssevernswim.
