AFTER 11 years, the pathway along the River Severn – known locally as The Tack or New Grounds – has been reopened to members of the public.

Walkers will be allowed to use a path that gives fantastic views of the countryside, River Severn, the two bridges and the Cotswolds.

The route is subject to certain seasonal regulation imposed by Natural England.

During the summer months, access to The Tack will be unrestricted to the point at the fence, some 1.5km.

From November 1 to March 31 access will be restricted to the landward track beyond the flood defence barrier.

This is to protect the nesting birds on the riverbank, apparently.

The key thing is for walkers to carefully read the noticeboard at the entrance – which details all the regulations – and to keep their dogs on a lead at all times.

Any breach of the regulations may result in Natural England withdraw-

ing permission to use the path.

Enjoy your walk everybody – it’s taken a very long time to get to this position.

Enjoy the easy, flat walk and the wonderful views.

Encourage your friends and visitors to again walk alongside the beautiful River Severn.
