I HAVE a pair of shoes that teach a lesson in economics.
They were made for me by the wonderful NHS because I have funny feet.
They are superbly made and will last forever.
Most things we buy are not made to last, so that manufacturers can gain a profit from continual sales.?But, the resources of our planet are running out.
Once fertile soil has become desert, rain forests are being decimated and oil is due to run out.
With this scenario, is it too much to hope that the mankind will have the humanity to share these depleted resources fairly and that manufacturers will make things for the benefit of people rather than for profit?
I have every confidence that production will continue, albeit on a more limited scale and with consideration to produce goods which will last as long as possible.
Production will continue because craftsmen are proud to share their skills.
This resembles the swapping of skills in an organisation such as 'LETS.'
Oh er! This sounds like Socialism. Maybe Capitalism will not be killed by bloody revolution but will die from resource loss.
