MORE than 150 people attended an exhibition of art created by young Syrian refugees living in a camp in the Middle East.

The artwork was brought to Monmouth by local charity iNeed and was exhibited at the Shire Hall.

Each artwork was accompanied with a caption about the child who drew it and asking what they most wanted – the majority wanted to go home to Syria.

Among those who attended the exhibition, With Love from Syria, were pupils from Osbaston Primary School in Monmouth.

The three-day exhibition raised £700 which will go back to the artists, who are all aged between 12 and 17 and are living in the Al Abrar camp in Lebanon.

Shire Hall manager, Aileen Atkinson said: “We were really pleased to have been able to support this very worthwhile cause.

“The exhibition obviously moved our visitors and we’re thrilled we’ve been able to raise so much money to return to the young artists.”

Founder of iNeed, Natasha Cadman, said: “We are desperate to get help to where it is most needed.

“We have a container load of clothes and essential supplies ready to go to Syria this month and we will be organising venues for people to drop off more supplies.”

The not-for-profit group is looking for venues in the Forest and Monmouthshire where donations can be left.
