WHAT a pity we are losing the signal box at Lydney station!
Recently my daughter had the misfortune to leave her suitcase on the platform at Severn Tunnel Junction while changing trains. It contained her new outfit and present for a family wedding that weekend.
Our signalman at Lydney couldn't have been more helpful – ringing other train drivers and guards to look out for it as they passed through. There is no signal box at Severn Tunnel Junction to communicate with, only the CCTV camera which eventually showed the case being picked up and taken onto the next train coming our way. The signalman was then able to contact the guard that we were waiting for it at Lydney, we want to thank him for his help.
We would also like to thank the lady who noticed the case and handed it in to the guard, she was from the Newland area.
Without her help, and without the signal box at Lydney, we would never have got the case back in time, if at all. Other people, in the future, will not be so lucky. Yes, we know there has to be progress, but it's a shame personal contact is lost. – A grateful passenger (name and address supplied) .
