FOREST Theatre at Five Acres was the setting for Lydbrook Silver Band’s Christmas concert and for the presentation of the Trefor Evans Bandsman of the Year award to 17-year-old Jack Lythaby.
Band president, Peter Hands said: “Our annual Christmas concert saw a packed Forest Theatre enjoying a mixed programme of classics such as River Dance and the Floral Dance combined with traditional Christmas carols.
“The band was delighted to have been supported by the Dowlais Male Voice Choir this year. With the sound of Lydbrook Band and the Welsh choir raising the roof, the evening was enjoyed by everyone.
“The band and its committee worked extremely hard to put on this annual Christmas concert and it was, as always, a great success. A huge thank you to everyone who turned out in the rain and supported the concert.”
The audience also witnessed previous winner Nigel Howard present Jack with the award, which is given annually to a band member who has made an outstanding contribution throughout the year.
Peter added: “The trophy is in memory of Trefor Evans who was the band’s solo horn player and who died shortly after returning from the band’s tour of Lithuania 10 years ago.
Jack, now 17, is the band’s solo horn player and started learning music at the age of nine as a member of Lydbrook Training Band. The presentation was greeted with rapturous applause.
“Jack was selected last year to become a member of the National Youth Orchestra and continues to inspire other young musicians in the area.”
