Isn't it strange how so often dogma and logic are bad bedfellows?

In last week's edition of the Review, C Spiby of St Briavels wrote, among other things:-

'Of greater concern to me is youth unemployment, the NHS and peace in the Middle East.'

Of course youth unemployment is something we are all concerned about but the arrival of millions of unskilled workers from the EU has clearly not helped us reduce youth unemployment.

Simple deduction can show correlation between large numbers of unskilled workers arriving here and youth unemployment.

The NHS of course faces enormous problems, not least because our population has increased by about 10 per cent as a result of unfettered immigration from the EU and in a very short time too.

This has inevitably caused proportionate increases in healthcare demands with which the NHS is struggling to cope.

Simple deduction can show correlation between bigger numbers to service and such things as waiting lists etc: so it is clear that both of these concerns are made worse by our EU membership.

C Spiby's implied solution to these problems is the Labour Party.

But hang on a minute. Isn't this the very party which facilitated uncontrolled immigration from the EU but won't allow the common people of this country a say on the subject of EU membership?

And indeed, wasn't it the Labour Party which implied that anyone even wishing to discuss the subject of immigration was a racist!

I am sure many will remember the put down of 'that bigoted woman', at that time, a Labour Party supporter.

Now with respect to 'peace in the Middle East', I guess we would all like that too but remind me, wasn't it a certain Labour PM who convinced our Parliament to approve an invasion of Iraq on the basis of their weapons of mass destruction threat?

As a 'director in business' I am sure C Spiby must be able to do simple sums and deduce cause and effect, so necessary in business; so his conclusion that Labour is the best solution to his particular concerns does seem to somewhat defy rational logic.
