I WANTED to elaborate on my recent letter about public

cuts and in particular the social welfare reform's cut to

Jobseekers' Allowance which has just been announced.

I think its all well and good trying to get the jobless

back into work through some hair-brained schemes. But I

think that if the Government is going to get the

unemployed to pick up litter and do someone's garden,

doesn't that mean that someone who actually does that

for a living is going to made unemployed themselves?

If there are jobs out there doing this, why aren't the

Government paying people to do it instead of what I think

is a form of slave labour.

It's all well and good bringing in the three strikes

rule of stopping someone's benefit, but with Government

slashing public services and companies laying off

thousands of people up and down the country, there will

not be any new, decent jobs to go for. The figures will rise

not fall.

As I said in my previous communication, the real

figure is that there are three million unemployed but it

doesn't really tell the truth.

The true total could well be reaching eight million

people and beyond, as some of the jobless are put on

back-to-work schemes and are intially brushed aside as

they no longer have to sign on for a period of up to 12

weeks.
