I READ with interest Sally Sunshine's comments on slavery. However, sadly, slavery was not abolished in 1834. There are more slaves world-wide now than when it was supposed to be abolished in 1834.

United Nations turn a blind eye to many practices in India, Asia, South America, Europe and the UK.

Our own government ducks the issue of Filipino domestic servants working for our Arab friends in this country who, when they escape, are returned to their country of origin, which is against international treaties which state that persons escaping from slavery should be given asylum. Perhaps we should have a day called 'Shame Day.'

With kind regards to you and your enlightened views. – Robin Caulkett, Station Road, Newnham on Severn.
