THE Wye Valley AONB office has gone proactive in its bid to bring more visitors into the area – with a special 'Wanderer' bus service among other moves.
The Wye Valley Summer Sunday bus service started on Sunday and will run on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays until September 29.
The service will complement the year-round Two River Wanderer services, and give locals and visitors alike the chance to get out and about without a car – and also enjoy a visit to a pub.
"While having a good day out bus travellers can support local services and help protect the Wye Valley AONB from increasing traffic congestion," said AONB special projects officer Liz Price.
Details of the services and times are all available in a new edition of 'Discover the Wye valley on Foot and by Bus' (30p), available from tourist information centres, libraries and many post offices and shops.
The guide included walk suggestions as well as detailing inns and pubs handy for refreshment breaks.
Visitors will also find fares have been kept to reasonable levels with subsidies from the AONB and local authorities.
•The Wye Valley AONB unit is holding a series of public meetings to seek the public's views on its plans for the next five years.
They hope people will contribute their own ideas and the meetings will be very informal – people can simply drop in for a chat between brief presentations.
The timetable is: May 16, Llanishen Village Hall 2pm-4.30pm; May 22 Llandogo Millennium Hall 6pm-8.30pm; June 11 Mitchel Troy Village Hall 6pm-8.30pm; June 18 Christchurch Old School 6pm-8.30pm; June 25 Mackenzie Hall, Brockweir 2pm-4.30pm; and June 26, St Arvans Memorial Hall, 6pm-8.30pm.
