EVER thought you would like to be immortal? Here's your chance.

You – or rather your torso – could find yourself kneeling forever in Cinderford's town centre Triangle as a tribute to the spirit of the coalminers of the Forest of Dean.

Shoppers would shop round you, traffic would steer round you, idlers would idle round you, those who have imbibed too much might clutch you for support and – unless banned – sheep and attendant tups and trailing lambs might baa at you in passing.

Springs, summers, autumns and winters would come and go and you would weather them all alike. And the centuries would pass ... and pass...

Together with your chum, the unknown soldier on Cinderford's war memorial, you could be looked at and pondered upon forever..

Sculptor Antony Dufort is advertising for a model for his statue symbolising the coalminers, who live on in the Freeminer tradition, which will take pride of place on the site of the former Union pub – a favourite meeting place of miners – in the revamped town centre.

These are his requirements: "About 20 hours per week, variable. Suit strong, fit, about 6ft tall. Aged up to 60-ish. Reasonable pay."

"I really think it would suit somebody 50-60," said Mr Dufort. "Somebody used to hard work, for the physique, and fitness of course. It isn't so easy holding positions for long periods. It is part time over the next few weeks."
