Why is it when reading through some of your letters we are faced with some correspondence from readers who know nothing of the workings of government departments, especially the MOD.
Firstly I would like to put Mr Sanky right with regards to sending "our boys" to fight poorly equipped. Civil servants do not have the authority to send troops anywhere and what they deploy with is decided by other members of the armed forces, with those decisions being taken by politicians and implemented by the armed forces, not civil servants.
As to the accusation of civil servants receiving millions of pounds in bonuses, is he aware of how many people work for the MOD and how, when spreading those so called millions around, how little each person receives? I spent a good number of years travelling into the Balkans, Middle East and other war torn areas in support of 'our troops' and received not one penny extra for the dangers undertaken and he has the audacity to quote civil servants being cowardly and shameless.
I suggest Mr Sanky writes a letter of apology and discovers the facts before writing such drivel again. It's the hard work and dedication of civil servants that has improved the equipment issued to the armed forces but we do not control the purse strings that force civil servants to make hard decisions. – S.J.
