THE DERAILED attempt to build a supermarket at Steam Mills is back on track.
The original planning application, which was first put to the Forest of Dean District Council in 2011, has been reactivated by a different company.
But Asda, which was closely associated with the development, has said it is no longer interested in opening a store in the Cinderford area.
The long-running saga hit a serious obstacle when the company which submitted the 2011 application, Trilogy Developments (Cinderford), went into liquidation.
The company was wound up because of the legal costs involved in the long-running battle with the Co-op which opposes building on the Steam Mills site.
An identical application has now been submitted by Trilogy Developments (Beverley) which has the same directors.
It will reactivate the application for which the district council gave permission but was quashed in the High Court and the process of consultation will now begin again.
A spokesman for Asda confirmed the company no longer has an interest in the Steam Mills site.
