GETTING on Facebook to chat with her friends is a priority for Lilly Strugnall, who is starting to learn all about the world wide web – at the age of 106!

Lilly, who lives at a Cinderford Extra Care housing estate and has vivid memories of the First World War, was born at the turn of the century,

In the company of her daughter Joy Williams, 79, and Age UK and BT National Internet Champion Margaret Goodwin, Lilly logged on for an internet master class.

She said afterwards: "I am looking forward to keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook. Margaret even showed me how to watch my favourite soap operas online." 

The classes are organised through Gloucester Community Council's 'Connect Project' which was launched at Hanover Court earlier this week. The project seeks to enable the over-55s to receive free tutorials within their own homes.

Margaret Goodwin said: "Lilly took to the internet like a duck to water.

"Being on a pensioner's income can mean a huge financial adjustment. You need all of the bargains you can get and the internet is the best place to find them.

"So whether you are keen to find a new recipe or fancy trying out internet dating the World Wide Web has something for everyone."
