FOR the fourth consecutive year tea, coffee, cake, and even sunshine helped raise a fantastic amount for Help for Heroes.

Len and Jill Lawton hosted a garden party at their home in Newent and said they couldn’t believe – with the support of friends and local businesses – they had surpassed last year’s amount of £450.

Jill said: “We have broken the record for funds raised yet again.

“We thought last year’s sum of £450 was fantastic, but so far we have raised £650 this year.”

Businesses donated raffle prizes while the ingredients to make the cakes and confection were provided by the Midcounties Co-operative store in the centre of town.

Len added: “We really could not have done it without the support of local businesses and friends such as Kerry Kornik his wife Lindsey and daughter Tamsin.

“They helped us set up in the morning and serve the tea and cake throughout the afternoon.

“A big thank you to everyone that supported our cause – we couldn’t have done it without you.”
