THE grounds of Lydney and District Hospital were packed to overflowing for the annual fete organised by the Hospital Friends.
Fortunately the weather smiled and encouraged everyone to take part in all the fun.
"Altogether we took more than £13,500, which is up on last year," said Marie Fraser-Griffiths, who helped with the organisation.
Among the stalls was one planned and set up by the late Melville Watts' granddaughters Holly Watts and Katie Watts helped by their cousin Amy. The girls roped in their school friends to produce goods for their stall, including greetings cards, home-made cakes such as cookies, Welsh cakes and chocolate crunch beautifully wrapped and presented, and hand-made gifts and charms. Also on the stall were hand-sewn and knitted baby clothes and soft toys.
The girls' total towards the day's takings was £256.
