A GROUP of charity fundraisers who host afternoon teas have raised £4,000 for two good causes.

The Crossroads Care charity was given £2,000 for their dementia care programme in the Forest.

And another £2,000 was presented to the Rendcomb Oncology Ward at Cheltenham General Hospital at the latest tea afternoon at Longhope’s Latchen Room.

Fundraiser Elaine Cruickshank from Mitcheldean said: “I have fund--raised for many years for the benefit of local charities – mainly cancer-related ones.

“Myself and some friends have held a few afternoon teas in the past three years and they have been very successful, thanks in the main to generous local businesses and some dedicated support from our ‘customers’.

“The latest tea was held in Longhope and we fed the maximum we could for the capacity of the room.

“The event was well attended and enjoyed, this being the fifth such fundraiser organised by the group of volunteers, without whom the event would not have taken place.

“Many local businesses supported the event by donating goods for the catering and raffle prizes and a generous donation from Lead 365 made such an amazing profit possible.

“We could have sold more tickets, had there been room, and the assembled masses were superbly entertained by the Ukesuvazzard.

“The manager from the Rendcomb Oncology Ward at Cheltenham General Hospital, Nick Simmonds, attended with two senior members of staff and went away with a cheque for £2,000, while a further £2,000 was given to Crossroads.”

Elaine said it was “hard work, but not a bad result for an afternoon tea” .

“It could not have been realised though without several factors.

“Wonderful entertainment, good food provided by a willing contingent of volunteers and generosity from several individuals and businesses.”
