FORGET The X Factor – four local talented people proved they had what it takes in Lydney on Saturday.

At a packed out Lydney Town Hall – where it's believed The Beatles performed during their early days – the finalists strutted their stuff in front of three judges in the hope of scooping the top prize.

Tyler Evans, of Mitcheldean, Casey Ball of English Bicknor, Olivia Reed of Coleford, and Devon Cassells of Newnham took part in Totally Talented The Teen Voice of Lydney. Each had come through a gruelling trial of heats including a semi-final before Saturday's final.

With her performance On My Own, Eponine's song from Les Miserables, Olivia was crowned the winner and received £100 cash, time in Auraphonic's recording studio to record her own CD, and produce her own music video.

Founder of the competition, Derek Biddle on behalf of The Lydney Festival of Music and Dance, said: "The three judges had a difficult task as the standard of singing was excellent. Unfortunately no one from Lydney, from the original 12 contestants, made the finals.

"Olivia did so well – she brought tears to the eyes of the audience and the judges, especially Christina!"

Not only did the contestants perform, but also judges Christina O'Carroll and Ellie Higgs who both have considerable experience in the music industry.

Derek added: "Christina and Ellie each sang a song which I'm sure inspired the younger singers. There appeared from the informal chat following the concert that all the team would like to hold another Forest wide competition next year, maybe holding the auditions in venues around the Dean. Sponsors for the prizes would be very welcome."
