ON behalf of the RSPCA, Forest of Dean Auxiliary branch, I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in 1999. We have had a brilliant year.
The Cinderford clinic has re-opened and our fundraising efforts have exceeded all expectations.
The year kicked off with a donation from the pupils at Dene Magna School, Mitcheldean, who presented us with a cheque for £1,000 raised doing a sponsored walk – what a brilliant effort, but very daunting standing up in assembly in front of 750 children!
The St Briavels and Hewelsfield house to house collectors were out in force again, with Mr Robertson overseeing all the details, raising over £527.
Our three Flag Days were well supported in Cinderford, Lydney and Coleford with over £570 raised.
We attended several carnivals and fayres and again our stall was well attended and supported.
A special thanks must go to Dawn Phelps and family from Cinderford, Lynda Furnival from Blakeney and Lynne Phillips from Ruardean, my regular volunteers at the clinic and at events.
Thank you to Alan Lander and the Forest of Dean Dog Training Club who organised a sponsored dog walk with the proceeds being split between the RSPCA Forest of Dean branch, the Forest of Dean Cat Protection League and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Rescue Centre. I managed the four-mile walk and raised over £240 to go towards the total.
Lydney Co-op allowed us to collect petfood for a week during November and this was greatly appreciated as were the personal petfood donations.
To round the year off we held a jumble sale at the Cinderford Clinic, raising £117. Over the same weekend some friends from Ruardean, Bev and Chris, along with a gang of friends went around the village carol singing and then entertaining the regulars and visitors at our local pubs raising a brilliant £220.
Thanks to all your efforts we have raised over £3,000. – Karen Davies, RSPCA Forest of Dean Auxiliary branch secretary.
