Great service
WHEN 420 volts came down our electricity supply line in the early hours of Tuesday, 23 October, about one-third of our electrical equipment was either destroyed or badly damaged...we were looking at being out of business for quite a while.
However, with the usual outstanding service from local suppliers, we were up and running again by breakfast time, albeit with some equipment not working, and by lunchtime we were fully operational!
I would like to use your newspaper to express my gratitude to the suppliers who came to our rescue: D.J. Hewer & Co Ltd, of Gloucester – their engineer, Andy Pritchard, had our boilers working again by 5am; Peter Capper – who looks after our standby generator, was here by 4am and after carrying out some temporary repairs, we got the generator running again, and came back in the evening to finish off the job.
By 8am William A. Baker & Son, Electrical Contractors, of Milkwall, had a team of skilled electricians here who worked all day, re-wiring, replacing and repairing.
Peter Berry Associates of Tewkesbury – delivered temporary tills before lunchtime; Philip J. Prosser, the plumber, was here early that morning to check over the hot water systems; and Lance and Simon Paddock of Forest Refrigeration, Coleford, were also here bright and early checking our refrigeration equipment.
By the next day, Dean Television had repaired or replaced a number of television sets, and Ray Hill of Ross-on-Wye had sorted out the audio/ video systems.
I cannot imagine anywhere else in Britain where such wonderful service is on the doorstep.
Our staff were absolutely superb and my wife and son worked tirelessly to help me overcome the problems.
But the bottom line is not at all reassuring – when I asked the MEB if it could happen again, they said 'yes'...
I suppose it's all just character-building!–John Stanford, The Wyndham Arms Hotel, Clearwell.
