THIS week the European Commission unveiled plans for a budget increase which would cost UK taxpayers an extra 1.4 billion pounds a year. This is on top of the £13 billion that we already contribute to the EU.

Firstly, they want the right to levy a Europewide sales tax. Secondly, they demand a financial transaction tax designed to ratchet up the cost of borrowing for consumers. Finally, they want to seize some of the current crop of 'Green' taxes.

It seems that even some members of the Government are waking up to the cost in terms of sovereignty and money of our continued membership of the European Union.

The British people are long overdue a referendum on this subject.

When will Mark Harper start to represent what so many of his constituents and even some of dwindling number of his local Tory supporters want?
