MEMBERS of a local musical theatre group had the opportunity to sing some of their all-time favourite songs for their last show.

Chepstow-based Chaos Music and Drama presented The Magic of Musical Chaos in four performances at the Drill Hall in Lower Church Street, Chepstow between Friday and Sunday (September 14 and September 16).

Chairman Keith Weight said: “In alternate years we try to do something a little different as a show in September.

“In the past we have done a couple of wonderful dramas written by one of our members, the talented Jon Stow.

“This year we thought it would be nice to highlight the other side of what Chaos Music and Drama do, which is song and dance.

“We came up with the concept of a concert featuring some of the songs that the cast have loved from past shows as well as some from shows we would not normally have a chance to do.”

The shows featured ranged from classics such as Carousel and The Sound of Music to more recent favourites such as Joseph, Wicked and The Greatest Showman.

The songs were put into sections relating to certain emotions or states of mind with costume colours to match and a narration between each section.

The idea was developed by musical director Mo Fielding and show choreographer Maxine Stow.

Mr Weight said: “The idea seemed a simple one but after hours of hard work, we put together a show we are very proud of.”

Although the show has finished its run, there is no let-up for members with rehearsals for their New Year panto due to start on Friday (September 21).

The show is called

A Repunzal Story and is written by society member Natasha Kus.

There will be four performances at the Drill Hall between Friday, January 11 and Sunday, January 13.

The society has been in existence, under various names for 110 years, and new members are always welcome, especially adults, either on stage, back stage or front of house.
