MEMBERS of the newly-formed Blakeney Garden Club are planning to revive the village show, which was last year cancelled.
"We just want to revive the whole village theme," said club secretary Christine Wischusen. "It is such a pretty village and it is well worth the effort.
"At the moment we are hoping to raise awareness of the event and gather interest, and we have put notices in the doctor's surgery and the post office about it.
"It is a shame the event didn't take place last year, mainly through people moving out of the area or too busy to be able to take it on, but we thought it would be more of a shame if it went altogether.
"If we find enough enthusiastic people we would think of holding it in September, perhaps a week after the annual duck race on the August bank holiday weekend."
She said that the village had recently lost one major event, its annual flower festival in the church, again through people moving or becoming less active – the church was, however, introducing other community events.
She said the new management at the Yew Tree pub were keen to continue the duck race tradition in the pub paddock, and she and her committee felt it would be nice to have a clear week in between this event and the village sow if it goes ahead.
She and garden club chairman Vera Lane were keen to hear from anyone with ideas for the show and especially from anyone able to help with its organisation and running.
The garden club, which has been running for a year, now has 23 members with 16 or 17 turning up regularly for meetings at Blakeney Village Hall, which will be the venue for the village show – plus events outside too, weather permitting.
