A 'think-tank' of motivated people is being sought by a Ross man who believes the town could become a regional centre for a variety of sports and leisure activities.
Christopher Deane says the town's location makes it ideal as the hub for everything from swimming to squash and even dancing.
"It would be ideal for a multi-use activity centre, and I have even identified a site," says Mr Deane.
A keen swimmer, Mr Deane completes an average mile-a-day swim six days out of seven. He is, he says, proud of the facilities Ross has to offer but would like something even better.
"Why not think outside the box for once and think positively? So why not campaign for a 50m pool. The nearest that size are in Cardiff and Coventry," he says.
Identifying the former Somerfield warehouse as a possible site, Mr Deane says a leisure complex there would improve health, bring wealth and increase employment.
"The complex I have in mind should be a first class venue for the people of this area and others from afar, not only providing swimming pools but multi-sports facilities, gymnasium and studios. Accommodation and catering facilities would be required as an integral part of this scheme as people, wishing to train for serious competitions, work hard for a weekend, not just half an hour," he said.
"In turn and equally important, there will be jobs for the people of this area. All the schools would also benefit from such wonderful facilities which would hopefully inspire champions of the future."
Mr Deane hopes that by attracting like-minded people to form a group a scheme could eventually be sent to the council.
