THE best in farming from the local area and far beyond was showcased at the annual Monmouth Show.

The show has an enviable and national reputation for the quality of livestock and horses and the grand parade, which includes the best animals in the cattle, sheep, goat and horse sections.

There were also lots of other displays and stands to keep the 18,000 visitors entertained throughout the day.

They included Australian stuntman Matt Coulter, known as the Kangaroo Kid, who holds several world records.

There was also the chance to meet the members and dogs of the Monmouthshire Fox Hounds.

There was also scurry racing in which two ponies pull a carriage through a course of 12 gates.

Show secretary, Liz Egerton, said: “It was an excellent show although numbers were slightly down because there was some rain in the morning and the heavens opened at 1pm.

“The reaction I’ve had has been very positive.”
