POLICE are seeking information about a series of burglaries in the Gwent area last Tuesday evening.

There was an attempted burglary at 7.10pm in Goldwire Lane, Monmouth, followed by a distraction burglary in Usk at 8pm and another in Newport at 8.20pm.

A police spokesman said: "We are linking these incidents. In all three cases the offenders have targeted elderly residents. The individuals responsible have been described as three white males between the ages of 20 and 35 years old, wearing casual clothing."

Gwent police are warning people not to let strangers into their homes.
