ORGANISERS of a hen do who booked places at a mud run party event fear they may never get their £6,000 payment back, after the mystery disappearance of the event's management.
Last week, Chepstow Racecourse warned those who had booked tickets for the Filthy Girl Mud Run that no one had booked the venue, despite the event's website advertising it for August 31 to September 2.
All attempts to contact the mud run organisers had failed, and racecourse bosses advised ticket buyers to contact Police Action Fraud.
Hannah Woodland from Bristol and her sister's hen do party booked 30 places, including glamping tents, and sent a plea out on Facebook after also failing to contact the mud run.
That finally elicited an email to the group, which said organisers had "experienced financial difficulties", but were still hoping to run the event.
The email said: "Unfortunately our company has experienced financial difficulties over the closed season which has resulted in us being forced to take some advice from a firm of experienced corporate turnaround advisors.
“Please note that no refunds can be processed at this time under any circumstances since it is not physically possible to do so.
“Our appointed representatives are not able to deal with any refund requests at this time until it is clear whether or not the events will take place.”
Ms Woodland said "alarm bells started to ring" after she tried to contact the Filthy Girl Mud Run's Facebook page and found it had been deleted.
"We have no proof either way of what's happened, but we are not able to contact the company in any way to confirm or deny our suspicions," she said.
"We have told our own hens who have contacted their banks and we’ve had to tell the bride that her hen do is now at risk."
But later she said they had finally received a reply, albeit one "that might not be the best response we could have hoped for."
Tickets for the mud run party, which was held at the racecourse last year, were on sale from £85, but the event's website is no longer functioning, while its Facebook and Instagram pages have also disappeared, alongside social media links to the couple who founded it.
A statement from the racecourse, which has since been deleted, said: "Please be aware the organisers of an event called The Filthy Girl Mud Run have not made a booking for Chepstow Racecourse for 2018.
"The company’s website says the racecourse will host the event between August 31 and September 2 2018. We can confirm this is not the case. There is no contract for this event for this year.
"All attempts to contact the organisers of this event have been unsuccessful. If you have purchased tickets for this event you need to report this by calling Police Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 quoting reference NFRC180102164375."
The couple behind the Filthy Girl Mud Run are listed online as Luke and Sheralee McCloskey from Nuneaton.
A Sponsor My Event appeal says: "Filthy Girl Mud Run and Party is run by a husband and wife team. Luke is a former Royal Marine Commando and Sheralee a former accountant. We live and breathe our brand and are 100% committed to making our events a rival to any other."
It claims to have thousands of women attending its events, plus more than "55,000 female fans on Facebook and circa 30,000 female visitors on our website per month".
The event is billed as: "The first girls' weekend away of its kind - DJs, artists, prosecco bar, Pimms bar, blow dry and nail bars, two nights' camping... all combined with a fun filled mud run."
But the pages of the www.filthygirlmudrun.com website "no longer exist" and its Facebook page is down, while Twitter accounts linked to the couple are both empty.
