ST MARY and St Peter’s Church in Tidenham held a Christmas tree display and quiz for the second year, with 23 beautifully decorated trees in the nave all depicting a different country.

Carol Clammer, from Tidenham Historical Group, said: “The display ran until Friday (January 6) and 23 local community groups contributed a tree. Some were designed and decorated by children of Tutshill and Wydean Schools, St Johns-on-the-Hill Nursery, Rainbows group and Splash.

“Local business also entered into the fun including the Village Inn, County Marquees, Sedbury Butchers, Day Lewis Pharmacy and Sheila’s in Sedbury and The Salon in Tutshill.

“Not to be outdone the Chase and Tutshill WI groups, 1 Rifles at Beachley, Tutshill and Sedbury surgeries, Chase Gardening Club, Tidenham Wives and Friends, Bellringers, Friends of Tidenham Church, the Martin Singers and the Tidenham Historical Group all entered a tree.”

This is the second year that the event has been held. The chair of the Friends of Tidenham Church and the event’s organiser, Ann Martin said that she was delighted with the response by the community and by popular request there are already bookings for the 2017 display.

Donations made by the public go towards improvements to the church’s community facilities. The answers to the quiz to name the countries represented by the trees will be published later in January.
