FOREST boxer Chris Higgs has made it five wins out of five contests in his toughest fight so far as a professional.
Higgs, who lives at Lydney, fought toe to toe with Bridgwater-based Dean Mills, taking the verdict at Torquay on Saturday 58 - 56. It was a six round contest, with four rounds going to the Forest boxer.
The boxers are old adversaries having met a number of times as amateurs. Contests between them have always been close.
Mills, with just one professional defeat, is rated 13th in Great Britain as a super featherweight. Higgs boxes as a lightweight but before Saturday's contest weighed in 2lbs lighter than his Somerset opponent.
Father Bryan Higgs described the fight as relentlessly tough.
"It was all-action. Chris was nursing some bruises on Monday but he boxed well and fully deserved to win a very hard contest. Both boxers looked very fit and it was an extremely tough contest," said Bryan.
Higgs, now managed out of Newport by Brian Powell, will have his next contest at Swindon on December 4. His opponent has yet to be named.
Over 60 local fans made the trip to Torquay.
