THE FOREST Council looks set to give itself planning permission demolish a toilet block in Lydney

The council wants to demolish the block in Bream Road and replace it with recycling centre.

The toilets have been out of use for five years.

The council says removing the building will make it easier for cars to get into and out of the recycling as well as relocating it nearer to Bream Road.

But local people and Lydney Town Council have said that the toilets should be reopened.

Two letters and a 20-signature petition were sent to the council saying that the toilet was needed at the top end of town and the block should be repaired and cleaned to bring it back into use.

Residents say they have also asked for a bus shelter on the site for people using the popular service to Gloucester.

The council says there are other toilets available so the closure therefore would not be detrimental to the economic viability of Lydney.

The proposal will be discussed by the council's planning committee at its meeting on Tuesday.
