RUARDEAN man Reg Duberley, 72, has been awarded a prestigious Gloucestershire Medal for Courage by the county council.

One of only two medal winners in the county, Reg is being rewarded for his capture of a knife-wielding youth in Ruardean who he held until police arrived.

"I am pleased to be honoured in this way," he said. "I was lucky it all turned out all right."

Two other Forest people were awarded certificates of merit. Irene Pearce of Coleford has been blind since she was a child yet has led a full and active life and helps others like herself cope with disabilities.

Bill Wylde of Lydney sustained severe injuries in a road accident in 1996 and has shown great courage and determination managing with prolonged treatment and the effects of the injuries on his life.
