AFTER 18 months of planning, Wyedean School departed on October 17 for a five day tour of Portugal.
With 43 students and five staff in their touring party, they played five rugby and two football matches. They were all based just outside the capital Lisbon in a small coastal town called Estoril. The students played against clubs and school sides with the two rugby squads playing in a tournament. The football squad organised a match against St Julian's School which is an International school just outside Lisbon and there are further hopes of developing a partnership between the schools. The touring party also enjoyed a City Tour and went visiting and touring around the famous Benfica Football stadium.
The spokesman said: "The students have worked hard in fundraising for this tour and have done several bag packs and beauty evenings and they would like to thanks all those involved with those activities. They would also like to thanks several companies for their kind and generous sponsorship which enabled them to buy several items of kit from Kukri Sportswear for the tour. Special thanks must go to AJ Tensile, Advanced Security, Henry Howards Financial Consultants, Charlton Networks, The Rotary Club, Cymru Kitchens, Snape Construction and Sheila's Drapery."
