THERE is to be a united community effort to beat anti-social behaviour in Bream.

The move comes after a neighbourhood coordination panel meeting saw local people express concerns about young people drinking and being noisy while gathering in the evenings and at weekends.

Incidents of driving recklessly on mopeds and motorbikes, banging on residents' doors and littering were also reported.

The local policing team say they are pleased that residents have come forward to report the issues and are now taking a range of measures with partner agencies including the parish council and local housing associations to deal with the problems.

PC Duncan Sleeman said: "We had great success tackling anti-social behaviour in the Green Acres estate but are disappointed some issues have arisen elsewhere.

"We're going to be patrolling more often, talking to local secondary schools and pursuing more CCTV in the area.

"The parish council will be looking at altering or removing the shelter – which is often abused and filled with drink bottles and other litter.

"In terms of the long term solutions we'll also be working to create a local youth council and junior street warden scheme similar to those in Gloucester which have proved so successful.

"We need to get local children more engaged in the community and encourage social responsibility.

"I would make a plea to local people to continue reporting these incidents to us on the new non-emergency number 101. We can only improve things by working together."
