AROUND 50 people enjoyed Christmas Day lunch cooked by volunteers at the Victoria Centre.

One of the organisers, Pearl Biddle, said: “The dining room was overflowing with guests, volunteers and goodwill.

“It proved yet again a very special day for local people, who might be frail or alone, to celebrate with friends, old and new.”

Among the guests was Raine Thurston of Lydney estate agent Ferrino which funded the celebration.

Mrs Biddle also thanked all the volunteers who entertained and cooked for the diners.

She added: “The centre is overwhelmed by the generosity of all who continue to make it possible to provide meals on a regular basis throughout the year for older residents.”
