Organisers of the St Briavels Millennium Fund have marked the year 2000 with a gift of £4,000 to pay for central heating to be installed in the Charles Lord Denton Almshouses.
Many events have been held to raise funds over the past two years
and the fund has been boosted by donations from the district and parish councils.
"The donation to the almshouses will be a permanent mark of the year 2000, whilst at the same time improving the accommodation for some of the village's older residents," said Mrs Tessa Charley, chairwoman of the Millennium Committee.
Members of the committee are Mr Steve Orledge, Mrs Jill Skidmore, Mrs Penny Parry, Mrs Cara Thurston, Mrs Diane Charley, Mr Brian Biddle, Mr Charles Summers and Mr Bernie Collins.
The cheque was presented to chairman of the Almshouses Trustees, Mr Wally Neale at a coffee morning organised by veteran fund-raiser Mr Mike Parry in aid of The Great Oaks Hospice.
