AMONG the adult population of the Forest of Dean, many of whom are car-owners, is there anyone who could volunteer to deliver meals to the elderly, preferably on a regular basis, but if not, to cover emergencies?
Age Concern Forest of Dean relies on volunteer drivers and we have a core of dedicated, committed persons, some of whom have delivered meals for many years.
Naturally, they require holidays or become ill or have some other emergency and cannot come to the kitchen for a few days or weeks.
This is when we need back-up volunteers to fill in. Of course, if anyone can commit to a regular delivery this is even better.
Expenses are paid at the rate of 45p per mile and as this is allowed by HMRC no tax is payable. This country has an admirable tradition of volunteering and this particular position is very rewarding as drivers are genuinely making a difference to people’s lives and are told so by their clients.
If you feel that this is something you could do, contact Debbie on 01594 827927. You will be welcomed with open arms.
Bear in mind that in a few years you may need meals delivered to you and without volunteers there may be no-one to bring them.
