WHEN members of a riding association started to clear a Forest path it by hand it became obvious they had bitten off more than they could chew!
The volunteers from the Forest of Dean Horse Riders and Carriage Drivers Association started to hack a way through the Pylons Track near Yorkley. "This long track was almost lost due to the overgrowth of brambles, bracken and overhanging branches," said a spokesman.
"The members did what they could in several sessions, but it was clear that a machine was needed to tackle the bulk of the work.
"The Forestry Commission asked one of their contractors, John Reed of Blakeney, to help complete the work. Money to pay for it was raised last year by the association at a tabletop sale and raffle.
"The Pylons track is now wide and clear and can be enjoyed by both walkers and horse riders.
"It is hoped to be able to maintain this track yearly, but more funds will have to be raised to do this. If you ride a horse in this area, or are interested in maintaining our beautiful countryside, please support the Association by joining."
