AHEAD of a major Coleford Festival of Words event based on the battle for the Forest, organisers are calling for HOOF campaign memorabilia to show in an exhibition.

Saturday July 9's events will begin at 11am with a walk accompanied by historian Simon Sandall who will talk about the Skimmington uprisings – participants are asked to bring a picnic.

A people's exhibition on the HOOF campaign will follow downstairs in Coleford Baptist Church, and everyone can submit views to the Independent Panel reviewing forests. There will be related craft workshops for all the family.

Speakers will include Baroness Jan Royall of Blaisdon, social historian Dave Rollison and others. Campaign films by John French, Mike Thomas and Woody Morris will be shown and there will be live music.

The Coleford Summer Festival is also taking place on July 9 in the centre of town – two great reasons to be in Coleford!

The organisers would like photos and films of the campaign, letters written and received, banners and other artworks for the exhibition. Volunteers for stewarding are also needed – contact [email protected]">[email protected] or call 01594 541014 or 07917 412909 (for volunteering).
