FATHER Christmas is expected to arrive at Newnham in the most unusual way ever on Saturday...on a surf board riding the Severn bore!

Bore Riders' Club spokesman Stuart Ballard says that while nothing is certain there's a strong possibility the surfing Santa could be joined by several helpers.

This weekend brings some of the biggest tides of the year to the Severn and Stuart says that depending on conditions there's the possibility of some great surfing.

There could be a Santa at Newnham and also upriver at Epney where bore riders are holding an end of season party on Saturday evening.

The best tides are predicted for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Saturday morning's tide is expected at Newnham at 8am. Sunday's tide is forecast for 8.46am and Monday's for 9.30am.
