WESTBURY'S stuttering form in the North Gloucester League's premier division has been in sharp contrast to the more ruthless team playing in cup matches.

Beaten finalists in the West Dean Charities Cup – they went down to Woolaston – there are high hopes they can make a second final by showing more good form in the Hospital Cup competition.

If the target is achieved they might well come up against their next door neighbours, the mighty Minsterworth, who are runaway league favourites and who would be odds-on to win the cup.

But you never know!

Westbury manager Clive Tempest says his team's mixed season has been in the main due to injury and unavailability.

However, he says: "We are getting there. The team is more settled now and we played very well on Saturday."

It was a difficult day for fluent football but once Westbury has nosed ahead there was no stopping them. Redbrook, recent victors over Newnham who had comfortably beaten Westbury early in the season, were never in with a shout. Three goals down at half time, they conceded three more as well as an own goal.

Westbury's scorers were Joe McGregor and Felix Otero (two each), Clifford Khoza and Luke Quinton. The goal by Quinton was his fourth for the club, having hit a hat-trick on his debut only a couple of weeks ago.

Westbury's long serving secretary David D'Ambrogio says the club now has enviable facilities having recently carried out major improvements to their changing quarters. "I can't think of another venue apart from Lydney where they have all the facilities so close to hand," he said.

Meanwhile Westbury will concentrate on cementing their midtable league position while aiming to reach a second cup final and a possible meeting with their deadly rivals.
