LAST year I telephoned the editor regarding the lack of grit in our village in Sling. At the time we were under a blanket of snow and all villages were having severe trouble with the side roads being extremely dangerous.

I also spoke to the West Dean councillor who, may I say, did not even live in the Forest but lived in Gloucester. What a surprise!

Anyway there is not one grit bin in the settlement of Sling. There is a grit bin in Ellwood and Clements End but, no, not here in Sling. It's like we do not exist.

We do have older people living in Sling and lots of young people who, as there are no jobs locally, have to travel further afield.

Our roads need to be kept free from ice! Well nearly a year on and still no grit bins, and what a surprise, the council don't want to know.

Some local people have bought grit themselves. This is not how it should be. All it would take is two grit bins, one each end of the main Sling road. I work further afield and I can honestly say that they do not have these problems. It's about time someone dealt with this matter. No doubt this is possibly the same in other Forest villages.
