I AM writing in response to the numerous letters regarding Whitecross school uniform (PE kit).

I'm a single mum of four children, one is at Whitecross and is doing very well. The school told me she is top of her class, but I can't afford Whitecross fees for the PE kit. I am on benefits and do not work due to my husband's problem. I have to shop around at charity shops and supermarkets or rely on my friends to buy me uniform. It is hard trying to save money as the government do not give me much.

I am very concerned as I have gone to the school and told them about buying cheaper. They told me I am breaking school rules if I go and buy from Asda/Tesco or charity shops for a few pounds, I'm not paying £40/95 as my daughter had her uniform stolen last year, it's not very nice having someone stealing from you. – Mrs C Bowkett.
