IN reply to the letter in your paper last week, written by B. Jones, with reference to the Christmas lights, I would like to confirm that the council did in fact allocate £5,000 for Christmas lighting, but have spent approximately £2,000 from that money on purchasing new lighting and paying contractors for fitting and removing some of the lighting. The remainder will be carried over to the next financial year, when it is hoped that more lighting will be provided, but this will also depend on other factors.
It is an unfortunate fact that Cinderford, unlike Coleford, do not have a band of volunteers fund-raising throughout the year to raise money for the Christmas lights, and then volunteering to erect the lights. I must therefore agree with part of the comment made by B. Jones, 'Come on Cinderford, wake up.'
Cinderford Town Council would welcome any parishioner/trader to take an interest in the Christmas lighting. Please do contact this office. – Mrs L.L. Thomas, Town Clerk, Cinderford Town Council.
