I FIND it hard to understand that there are residents who do not appreciate and welcome trains to the Forest. So much of the history of the area has been moulded by trains – industry, employment and, more recently, tourism.
I would love to be able to afford to move to Parkend and encourage and enjoy the grand sight an sound of trains.
How selfish and short-sighted can some people be? Trains keep the Forest alive and what if it 'might' bring some freight to the area?
Good!
It is needed, although nowadays, the primary function is likely to be tourism and who would turn away the money that it brings in to local shops, hotels, pubs, restaurants etc?
If Diana Organ MP has to be approached, let it be fore more help for the Forest railways!
I first came to know and love the Dean and its people many years ago after my first visit to the railway and then exploring the long-gone branch lines, tunnels, cuttings, embankments and the sites of old quarries, pits and factories.
What a wonderfully diverse area the Forest is!
To the selfish objectors I say – welcome the trains!
They are as essential to the Forest as sheep – but actually even more so! – Name and address supplied.
