GRATEFUL thanks for council workers In this period of austerity. We hear much of the problems throughout the country regarding complaints about councils and council services. Rubbish collection and recycling are well up the scale of dissatisfaction for many council taxpayers.
My wife and I moved to this area three years ago because we were impressed by the welcoming and friendly attitude of the people of the Forest of Dean. This has not changed and with regard to my first sentence, I would particularly highlight the wonderful service offered by the Forest of Dean Council employees. The crew that collects our rubbish and recyclables are so cheerful, hardworking and enthusiastic.
The staff at the recycling centre at Oak Quarry, near Coleford, are wonderful at assisting everyone, with a bit of cheerful banter to brighten the day. The staff at the main Council Offices are so pleasant and helpful.
There may be dissatisfaction with the political side of councils but I think that the workers providing the direct services to the public are deserving of our grateful thanks. Long may it continue!
