LIKE J Stephens of Chepstow I was surprised by the apparent complacency of the head and governors of Wyedean School.

The whole community has been shocked by the poor examination results and other serious matters covered by Ofsted.

If, as the headteacher and governors assert, the school can be turned around swiftly, one is bound to ask why these same people have allowed the school to deteriorate over the past few years.

Young people, especially those in examination years, get only one "crack" at education and, one hopes, especially for their sakes that immediate action is taken so that their examination results this year show a marked improvement.

The time for complacency is over. The time for focus and hard work has arrived.
