SHE said ‘yes’ – but Sandra Meredith had been planning a proposal of her own.
Last week an unusual advert appeared in the Review – with Sandra being asked by partner Trudi Sara to marry her.
The ad left Sandra speechless but so was Trudi when she produced a ring and revealed she had planned a Christmas proposal.
The couple, of Chepstow are planning to tie the knot this coming year but have yet to decide on a venue.
“I couldn’t believe it – all the kids knew that Sandra was planning to propose to me,” said Trudi.
“My best friend from Hull was visiting us and thought it was wonderful. She had somehow convinced Sandra to carry my engagement ring around with her as she knew I was planning to propose.
“I said to Sandra there was an article about Lidl, who she works for, in the paper and when she opened the paper she saw the advert.
She was completely gobsmacked, I then gave her a bunch of red roses which I’d hidden her ring box inside and got down on one knee.
“She said ‘yes’ and then also got down on one knee and said she had planned to propose to me.
“We hope to get married within the year and are starting to organise it as soon as possible.”
Sandra added: “I’m still in shock. After Trudi asked me I then got down on one knee – I planned to wait until Christmas Day but Trudi beat me to it. I’d marry her tomorrow if I could.”
