MUSIC lovers in Monmouth had a rare opportunity to hear the talent of students from local schools together in concert.

Singers and musicians from Monmouth Comprehensive School, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Boys and Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls came together for a charity concert hosted by the Mayor of Monmouth.

Also appearing was the Tredegar Town Band, one of the country’s leading brass bands.

The event at the Blake Theatre in Monmouth raised around £600 for the mayor’s charity appeal on behalf of the Monmouth Youth Project, the Monmouth branch of the Alzheimer’s Society and the British Heart Foundation.

Mayor of Monmouth Cllr Graham Pritchard said: “The concert was a resounding success.

“A number of people have stopped me in the street since to say how impressed they were.

“There is a lot of musical talent in our three senior schools and the Tredegar Town Band was mind-blowing.

“It was a very special evening of music.”

The next event for the mayor’s charity is a sponsored walk from the centre of Monmouth to Symond’s Yat.

The nine-mile walk takes place on Saturday, April 23 and is being organised by the Monmouth Walkers are Welcome group.

Entry forms will be available from Wednesday, March 23 from Shire Hall and the Bridges Centre in Monmouth.
